Who we are
EM Evidence (emevidence.org) is run by Dr Jake Turner. For any privacy question or request, email emevidence999@gmail.com.
The mailing list
If you sign up, we collect your email address and the updates you chose (weekly EM, monthly PHEM, monthly Anaesthetics and ICM, monthly Major Trauma, website updates). We use them only to send you those emails.
- We use Loops to store the list and send the emails.
- Loops is the only place we keep your email address and list choices. We don't copy them anywhere else.
- We rely on your consent. You can withdraw it at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email, or by emailing us.
- Loops records whether each email was delivered and, depending on its settings, whether it was opened and which links were clicked.
- We keep your details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them.
- We don't sell or share your details with anyone else.
If you email us
The contact email, "Report Clinical Issue" and "Suggest a tool" links open an email to emevidence999@gmail.com. We receive your email address and whatever you write, which Google stores as part of Gmail. We use it only to reply and to act on what you've told us, and we delete it when it's no longer needed.
Using the website
- The site is hosted by Netlify, which processes standard web server data (such as your IP address and browser type) to deliver the pages, and collects page-performance measurements.
- We count visits with GoatCounter, which uses no cookies and doesn't store IP addresses. It records the page visited, which tool or newsletter was opened, the referring site, browser, screen size and country, and searches that found no tool, so we can see which resources are useful. None of this identifies you.
- The site itself doesn't set cookies. It stores your dark-mode choice and which tool sections you have opened in your browser, and keeps a copy of its own files in your browser so it works offline.
- The newsletters, and their audio summaries, are on Google Drive. Opening one, or choosing Preview here or Play audio summary, loads Google's viewer or player, which is covered by Google's privacy policy and may set Google cookies. Where an issue is also on our podcast, Play audio summary loads Spotify's player instead, which is covered by Spotify's privacy policy and may set Spotify cookies.
- Each tool opens a separate website. Please don't enter patient-identifiable information into any tool.
Where your information is held
Loops, Netlify and Google are based in the United States, so information they process for us may be stored outside the UK. Each of them provides safeguards for international transfers under UK data protection law.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete the information we hold about you by emailing us. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
